YOUTH DIRECTOR
English Speaking Position Available at the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church
Job Description
- Oversee the youth ministries (for grades 6-12) of our Chinatown-based, English-speaking congregation providing philosophy, strategy, planning, leadership, teaching, training, counseling, modeling, coordination, and management. The context for these ministries may include small groups, Sunday School classes, fellowship groups, conferences, leadership meetings, and outreach activities. The goal would be to produce disciples who think, feel, act, and reproduce like Jesus Christ at the workplace, the home, and the community.
- Work with and report to the Student Ministries Director for Chinatown ministries.
- Collaborate with community outreach youth ministries such as our middle school summer day camp and after school programs.
- Provide support to our other ministries in the church which may include worship/music leading, preaching, teaching, leadership, and coordination as needed and assigned.
Qualifications:
- A spiritually mature, servant-leader of conservative evangelical faith.
- Solid biblical and theological knowledge equivalent to seminary training.
- Passion and experience in ministering to youth, preferably in an urban context.
- Understanding of bi-cultural issues of an Asian American church.
- Able to work with others on a team oriented staff.
- Able to work within a larger church vision, particularly as it pertains to our urban campus.
- Fluency in English (fluency in Cantonese or Mandarin desirable but not required).
- Possesses competency in team-building, preaching, leadership, counseling, and administration or can build a team to meet such needs.
- The following proficiencies are preferred but not required: music/worship leading, operating video/sound equipment, Internet research, Microsoft Office, web site design.

DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES
Full-time or Part-time English Speaking Position Available at the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church
Job Description
- Oversee the children's ministries (for ages 0 to grade 5) at our Chinatown and Newton campuses, serving 150 children in Chinatown and 70 children at Newton. The children come from the community and from all six of our congregations. The two children's ministries at the two campuses run concurrently on Sunday mornings.
- Provide philosophy, strategy, planning, leadership, teaching, training, counseling, modeling, coordination, and management. The context for these ministries include Sunday ministries such as nursery care, children's church and Sunday School, as well as other outreach activities such as Vacation Bible School and Children's Christmas Parties. The goal would be to produce disciples, teachers and children alike, who think, feel, act, and reproduce like Jesus Christ at the workplace, the home, and the community.
- Work with members from all six congregations across two campuses: Chinatown English, Chinatown Mandarin, Chinatown Cantonese (2), Newton English and Newton Cantonese.
- Attend meetings with pastors and staff from both campuses to coordinate congregation, campus and church-wide affairs.
- Participate in the children's ministries and the other ministries of the church where appropriate, on Sundays.
- Provide support to our other ministries in the church which may include presiding in worship service, helping with the church bulletin and coordination as needed and assigned.
This position can be a full-time or part-time position. The full-time director would take care of the children's ministries across the two campuses as described above. The part-time director would take care of one campus only; we would then hire another part-time director for the other campus. The Chinatown ministry serves children from our four Chinatown congregations: Mandarin, Cantonese (2) and English. It is an urban ministry with children from immigrant, non-Christian, Chinese families, as well as children from urban and suburban Christian families. Knowledge of Chinese culture and/or language is a definite plus in the Chinatown campus. The Newton ministry serves children from our two Newton congregations: Cantonese and English. It is a suburban ministry with children from suburban, Christian families.
