Letter from Pastor Daniel Chan, Senior Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters of BCEC,
Jan 7, 2022 Update: Last week, the church decided to suspend in-person services for two Sundays (January 9 and 16). This week, after consulting with the elders, CRT, and Pastoral Staff, the senior pastor decided to extend the suspension of in-person services for two more Sundays (January 23 and 30). Worship services will continue to be offered online. Fellowships can resume in-person meetings after January 16 on a case-by-case basis upon request and approval from CRT. May the Lord protect you from harm during this pandemic. Please refer to the church website for future updates.
Jan 7, 2022 Update: May the peace of the Lord be with you. The Omicron COVID variant has been infecting a lot of people in Massachusetts. Quite a few people and families in our congregations were tested positive during the past weeks. We thank the Lord that almost all of them had mild symptoms and recovered quickly. Last Sunday (January 2), a person who was involved in leading the Cantonese and Mandarin services was also tested positive for COVID after returning home. The Churchwide Response Team (CRT) immediately met and assessed the situation. On Monday, messages were sent out to alert people who attended Newton services on Sunday.
The Pastoral Staff met on Tuesday and discovered that due to quarantine requirements, health concerns and safety precautions, 5 of our 7 congregations would not have enough people to staff the core functions of leading upcoming in-person services. Technical teams of those services are also short handed. Therefore, the pastors of those 5 congregations proposed to move their services online for two Sundays. This will allow the worship leaders to recover in number and in health. On Thursday, the elders met and evaluated different responses to the situation. Many insightful viewpoints were exchanged. At the end the elders entrusted me to make a decision whether to temporarily close in-person services. After prayers and considerations, I have decided to move all 7 services from being in-person to online for the coming two Sundays (January 9 and 16). The same will also apply to fellowship meetings until January 16.
The elders, CRT and Pastoral Staff will continue to monitor the situation and update you about the next step. Please pray for our leaders as they make decisions during this fast-changing phase of the pandemic. May God protect you and keep you safe.
