Nominees for 2018-2019 Board of Deacons (2-year term)
Emily Ho (Cantonese 2nd)
Emily Ho was born in Hong Kong where she attended a Christian school. She immigrated to U.S. with her family. Having graduated in Accounting from the University of Hartford, she further attained a master’s degree in finance from Northeastern University. She worked as a financial analyst and later a tax accountant at John Hancock. In 1986 her search for the Christian faith had led Emily first to the Boston Church of Christ. By God’s grace, she was directed to the truth by Pastor Steven Chin and was subsequently baptized at BCEC. Her ministries include serving as a
committee member in the Ruth Fellowship, leading Bible study and serving in the Caring ministry. In the past she had taught Children Sunday school and ESL. Emily is currently retired but is busier than ever in taking care of three super active grandchildren for her son Hamilton.
Kevin Fong (Newton English)
Jesus first made Himself known to Kevin when he was 6 years old and kept pursuing him until Kevin finally believed and was baptized at BCEC 17 years later. Over the years, Kevin served 12+ years in various BOD positions including chairperson. He has led Young Adults Fellowship (Koinonia) and Family Ministry, served as a Branch Fellowship counselor, taught 6th grade and adult Sunday school, served on the Social Responsibility Committee and the BOD Personnel Committee, and helped launch New Community in 2003. Kevin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently a system engineer at the MITRE Corporation. He enjoys reading, listening to music, and sports.
Kevin and Helena married in 1991, and God blessed them with two children, Caitlyn and Ethan.
Paul Lam (Newton English)
Paul was born in Hong Kong and his family immigrated to the United States when he was 7. He was baptized in 1994 at Danbury Chinese Alliance Church in Connecticut along with his future wife (not dating at the time) Jenny Lam. Paul went on to college at the University of Michigan where he spent 5 fun years pursuing a 4- year degree. He experienced the meaning of authentic Christian Community at Michigan and after graduation moved to Boston and started working for Edward Jones in 2001. Paul and Jenny have been married for 14 years and have 2 kids, Noelle and Eli. At Edward Jones, Paul leads their branch teams in eastern MA and serves as a Financial Advisor in Wellesley. Paul and Jenny started attending BCEC in 2010 and enjoy serving in Junior Worship.
Julia Zhu (CT English)
Julia was born and raised in San Francisco. She was baptized at her home church, Cornerstone Grace Evangelical Baptist Church, in 2006. In 2010, Julia moved to Boston to study economics and political science. She began attending BCEC in 2011 and has served in Project Destiny Autumn-to-Spring, Teen Fellowship, and Adult Large Group. Julia works in the banking industry.
Anthony Lai (Cantonese 3rd)
Anthony started attending BCEC in 1992. He is married to Kathy and has two daughters, Chloe & Bernice. He is currently serving with Kathy in Joshua 2 fellowship as counselors. He also served on the Board of Deacons as operation/expansion deacon and Co-Chair in expansion committee. He is working as a Product Development Director in a juvenile product company.
Sam Lok (Chinatown English)
Sam grew up in BCEC and was baptized in 2007. Through the years, Sam has served in various ministries ranging from youth to adult. Sam continued serving BCEC after college as a Project Destiny Autumn through Spring (PDAS) counselor. Currently Sam is working as an engineer in Boston while leading a small group within the Chinatown English adult fellowship.
