  • What’s New in BCEC

    2025 BCEC Town Hall will be held in person at the Josiah Quincy Upper School (900 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111, Auditorium) and live-streamed two-way to Newton Campus (218 Walnut Street, Sanctuary) on Sunday, October 19, 1:15-3:00pm. It will be held in English with Cantonese and Mandarin translation. We encourage our BCEC members to attend the Town Hall to become fully informed about the FY25-26 General Fund, Mission Fund, Charity Fund and Expansion Fund budgets. In addition, the draft of the FY24-25 Financial Report will be presented. Light refreshments (baos) will be provided.

    2025 BCEC Annual Congregation Meeting will be held in person at the Josiah Quincy Upper School (900 Washington Street, Auditorium), on Sunday, October 26, 2:00-4:00pm. We will not be providing online streaming. All BCEC members are encouraged to attend this important church wide annual meeting. We will be voting for deacons and budgets for next year. Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the meeting. RSVP information to come out by 10/12. Please plan to join us!  

    Chinatown Campus

    BCEC Community Sports Broomball season begins this Sunday, October 5! Come by to watch the games starting at 1PM in the Josiah Quincy Upper School gym.

    If you would like to join a team, registration forms are available online at https://tinyurl.com/sportsBCEC. The league is open to all BCEC attendees and friends ages 14 and up. Rules and scheduling updates can be found here

  • BCEC Visioning Process

    The Vision Team is continuing to work on refining our core Values. They will meet on Saturday, October 11th to finalize these Values and seek God’s Vision for the church.

    New Vision Team Member – We thank God for His provision of a fourth new member to join the Vision Team. Jay (Szechun) Leung is the newest addition to the team. He attends the Chinatown Cantonese service.

    BCEC’s new Mission Statement & Core Values will be presented at the conclusion of Newton English worship service on October 12th and Chinatown English worship service on October 19th.

    Let’s call upon our Lord! Pray: He leads all of us in our BCEC family to be active co-participants in advancing his Vision Initiative by rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, and giving thanks in all circumstances. 

    Lift up the Vision Team’s in-person meeting on Saturday, October 11th, praying for unity and harmony as they seek God’s vision for BCEC together.

    Also pray for our four newest Vision Team members as they learn more about the Vision Initiative, their roles, and transition into the team.


  • Ongoing Announcements

    Staffing Update
    After more than 20 years of faithful service, Connie Ho, our Chinese Secretary at the Chinatown Campus, has announced her decision to retire, effective December 31, 2025. Connie began serving at BCEC in September 2004 and has been a vital part of supporting our Chinese ministries through seasons of growth and change. We are grateful for her dedication, her heart for ministry, and the many ways she has served the church family over the years. We praise God for Connie’s faithfulness and pray for His continued guidance and blessings in this next chapter of her life.

    Pastor Barry Lam has answered God’s call to start a new ministry and will be leaving BCEC on October 1st. May God richly bless him. The Board of Elders and Board of Deacons have approved Elder Bak Fun Wong and Minister Benny Chiu to co-lead the Transition Team and the Newton Cantonese Ministry Team (NCMT), with the following arrangements:

    • Pastor Kenneth Kwong and Minister Benny Chiu will be responsible for and will take turns in attending Sunday worship services.
    • Elder Jack Lee and Elder Bak Fun Wong will be responsible for pastoral care, visitation, ministry teams, and fellowship ministries.
    • Interim Minister Jenny Choi (part-time) will be responsible for coordinating Sunday service workers, Sunday ministries (including children), Sunday School, and ministry teams.
    • Interim Minister Wilfred Chan (part-time) will oversee outreach, visitation, and coordinating as liaison for Daniel Fellowship, EE, Alpha, and LG ministries.
    • Pastor Daniel Chan will provide support to the Newton Mandarin ministry.

    Contact information for the above ministry personnel will be announced in next week’s bulletin.

    Water Damage Repair at 120 Shawmut We appreciate your prayers and concern regarding the recent storms damage. Repairs are underway to fix the roof leaks and restore the affected areas on the third floor. Thankfully, insurance will cover the costs. For any questions, please contact the facility staff.

  • Community Groups

    Cross-Campus Group Updates

    Try Alpha. Curious about life? about faith? about God? Alpha is a space to explore the Christian faith and discuss your questions with people who are just like you. There’s 13 sessions, and each session has food, film, and a discussion where it’s an opportunity for you to say whatever you like in an informal, relaxed way. You can join in or say nothing at all; totally up to you. No matter what your background or belief, you’re all welcome. If you know friends or family who may be interested, please invite them. If you have children or teenagers, there is a children’s program and a youth group at the same time. Alpha, every Friday at Newton campus, starting 9/26 at 6:45pm.     Newton Campus Group Updates

    Community groups for 2025 are launching, including some new options!

    Friday Night Bible Study is on pause until Fall 2025. For many of our small groups, June marked the final month of regular meetings. During the summer, we take a break from studies and instead gather for fun activities and fellowship.  

    Mark Sunday School will no longer be offered starting in September. Keep an eye out for updates regarding different Sunday School options that may start in Fall or Winter!

    Newton English College Group will meet on the first and third Sundays of every month. The meetings will be held at 12:45pm in Room 206. For more details, please reach out to Eric Chan

    Online Women Book Study 1st and 3rd Saturday 9am-10am “Seeking Him”.


  • Opportunities to Serve

    Children’s Sunday School Are you passionate about sharing God’s love with the next generation? Do you have a heart for children and a desire to help them grow in their faith? We are looking for a teacher to teach a small group of 6 and 7 year old children to start teaching this September. Classes run from 11am to 12:30pm every Sunday. Volunteers should be baptized believers and preferably members. Please contact Lorraine Ho if interested.

    Sunday Service Teams are looking for volunteers to serve the Chinatown English congregation in its Sunday worship services. If you’re interested in joining the Worship Team, Tech Team, or Hospitality Team, please email vernon.cheung@bcec.net.


  • Parking Reminders

    Chinatown Campus Sunday Parking
    Please do not park in the 120 Shawmut parking lot on Sundays, as it is reserved for staff and guest speakers only. Parking is available at the Herald Street Garage for those with a valid parking permit. Temporary parking passes are available at all welcome tables. 

    Newton Campus Parking 
    Please do not park at the Trio lot, as unauthorized vehicles parked there will be towed. Please be mindful when parking on the streets to not block any driveways. Also, the staff parking lot on Sundays is for staff and guest speakers only.
